Written Application Materials (WAMs) and Support
Writing application materials, such as a CV/resume, recommendations, statements and essays, takes time, effort and expertise. You are writing vertically, i.e., for the reader (reviewers), but in a nuanced way to explain experiences from your life.
WAMs have immense potential to give you an edge, in addition to your academic and professional background. I specialize in developing high-quality written materials that make you and your story shine while matching the demands of competitive and selective programs.
1. Application(s) Packages
- We will develop WAMs from scratch: brainstorming, information gathering, crafting drafts and revising them until you submit.
- The review plans can cover typically up to 2 WAMs in each session. I am happy to discuss a list of documents and a timeline that are mutually agreeable.
- The editing plans include up to 10 WAMs (with a minimum of 5). Typically, the 10 WAMs include 1 CV, 3โ4 LORs, and 5โ6 statements and/or essays. 5 WAMs include 1 CV, 1-2 LORs, and 2-3 statements/essays.
- The objective is to cover the various types of WAMs across multiple applications.
- I will help you maintain a schedule to submit most/all of your applications before the deadlines.
- I will help you prepare a list of programs that is well-suited to your background and interests. I do not typically follow the “ambitious, moderate, safe” or equivalent methods.
- I help with additional application components such as video essay development and interview preparation too.
- I am happy to connect you with current students or recent graduates that I have worked with.
- Please note that I encourage signing up for packages very early, and typically get booked out by early August (for the following fall).
- I strongly prefer working at a steady pace and try to avoid last-minute rushing through work.
- Meetings and calls are scheduled regularly, and our collaboration will be driven by a dedicated Google Drive folder and communication via Google Chat.

My overall experience has been great! I’m very satisfied with the outcomes as well. Thank you so much for your time and effort. I really appreciate the detailed knowledge transfer sessions and your approach to handling various statementsโbe it SOP, PS, diversity, essay questions, technical questions, etc.Your writing skills were amazing and I loved how you were able to connect my technical and social experiences in a seamless manner. Your techniques were very precise and pertinent. The brainstorming sessions really helped me when I was confused/stuck and you were quite responsive whenever I needed any assistance.
I also admire the fact that you were very genuine and patient throughout the process! I am really grateful for your services and wish you all the best in your future endeavors! Would definitely recommend it to others

The edits and suggestions I received were truly essential in helping me highlight my strengths effectively. After reading numerous other motivation letters, I realized that Rubinโs critical insights addressed key aspects I had overlooked in my letter, strengthening my case for why I want to pursue this course. His ability to assess each situation individually and provide tailored advice is, in my opinion, his greatest strength. In my case, as someone transitioning fields, he not only offered thoughtful guidance but also shared valuable insights on how I can demonstrate my acumen towards the new field, which in turn greatly supported my application.

3. Reviews
- Reviewing WAMs includes development from scratch or reviews of drafts you have already prepared, with each session lasting about 60 minutes.
- If you have drafts, I will review them prior to our meeting and note down my thoughts as comments wherever applicable. This ensures that we make the best use of our session(s) with detailed discussions, bouncing of ideas, and specific suggestions to maximize the impact of your WAMs.
- Peak season (October to January) availability is very limited, but I will try to accommodate your needs as much as possible.

Rubin helped me in many different ways. I first got to know him through his LinkedIn posts. I used to read his posts and suggestions and apply them whenever possible. Later, when I was planning to pursue higher education, I immediately thought of reaching out to Rubin. He helped me in numerous ways. First, he guided me in understanding what I truly wanted to do in my career. Then, he narrowed down my options and provided valuable tips on selecting the right university, which was crucial.
He also carefully curated a well-personalized set of documents that accurately reflected my intentions. Even though I often pressured him, he remained calm and even went the extra mile by creating an additional document that wasnโt part of our original agreement.
To sum it up, working with Rubin not only guarantees strong documentation but also helps you gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your goals.

University and Program Shortlist
I understand how confusing shortlisting can get and I am happy to support you in the process. I have found shortlisting to be a very qualitative and intuitive process, which is why I include it in my applications package.
The support leverages my experiences as much as possible, and I will guide your efforts too. I do not have any tie-ups, and the process is entirely dependent on your profile, requirements and fit.
The list will include key details that will help you narrow down your target programs and increase your chances of getting in.
Available only as an add-on at my discretion for pay-as-you-go services (i.e., besides the packages).
*FAQs
Do you write from scratch?
Ideally no. I work with you to develop WAMs from scratch, and retain your voice. I need information to write. If asked to write a statement or essay with very little information, I will have to decline. However, if you are willing to provide detailed information in writing or are confused about getting started with your draft, I will be happy to help you. Feel free to get in touch!
How many applicants/mentees do you work with?
Since I work independently, the time and effort I put in allow me to work with ~20 applicants a year. To maximise the chances of a win-win, I am selective in choosing applicants to work with.
If you are reading this after the spots are filled for the complete applications package, I would be happy to speak with you to discuss alternatives. I could also refer you to excellent consultancies that I am familiar with – The Red Pen and Ivyprep.
Do you assist PhD applicants?
Yes, I do! However, I have to be very even more selective (about 2-3 PhD applicants per year). This is contingent on the groundwork you have done, and knowing that my assistance will be beneficial to you.
Do you assist applicants from countries other than India?
Yes, I do! The only condition is that you must have PayPal, as that is the only means for me to receive payment from outside India, or you must know someone in India who can pay on your behalf.
Your charges are too good to be true. Why do you charge so reasonably?
While consultants charge in the lakhs (as much as INR 500,000 + GST) for very similar services, I strongly believe in fairness and accessibility. Assisting applicants over the past 7 years has made one thing absolutely clear: reducing costs during the application process is vital.
Further, my current charges are not based on “market-pricing” but on reviews from people like you. However, the aspect that continues to improve is quality. To be frank, I can’t deliver lower quality. It is against my values, and after improving my skills constantly over the years, my process and results match my learnings.
Can I get a sample of your work?
No, I have a strict no-sample-sharing policy. If you would like to know about my work and experience, I will be happy to connect you with a past applicant for feedback.
How many universities are included in your packages?
It depends on you! In the package, I am to develop drafts that cover a range of application materials, particularly the statements. You may come across a program that needs a single, 2-page statement of purpose, or a program that asks for 3 different statements (including optional ones). Once we cover the range of documents, it is just a matter of changing some portions for repeated documents, which I can review.
What is your process?
You can find an overview of my process here. I try to align my process with your needs, timeline, and methods.
What is your refund policy?
- I do not issue refunds for work which has already been performed.
- In case you, having made the payment, decide not to avail of the said services within 2 days of the Effective Date (as per the Agreement), I am happy to use your payment towards another service, if requested within 7 days of the Effective Date. Depending on the other service, you will be required to sign a new agreement.
- I typically charge a non-refundable 25% advance (for charges above โน15,000). I will refund that in very rare cases, such as if you decide not to proceed immediately after you pay the advance. The balance amount is paid in portions depending on the services, and hence there has never been a need for me to issue a refund.
Do you help meet word or character counts?
Yes, indeed! I edit based on your/application requirements, which can include a specific word or character count.
How do you count the number of words for the editing service?
I shall round the number of words in your draft to the nearest hundred. For example, if your draft is 750 words or lower, I will charge for 700 words, and for a draft that is 751-800 words, I will charge for 800 words.
If your draft is 600 words, and you need a statement that is 950-1000 words, I would require a draft that is at least 850 words. However, if your draft is 806 words and you need a final statement of 500 words, I will charge for 800 words.
Please see my process for further information.
What if I am not satisfied with the edit?
I try to understand your requirements before editing. In the case of clashing ideas, it is my duty to help you understand what could be better, as per my experience, training and results.
Edits usually include two or three rounds of revisions (or more if necessary), wherein you can provide feedback and comments for me to work with. I welcome critiques of my work. However, if your suggestions or wishes stand against what a good statement or recommendation should include, I may decline to include them in my edit. There will most likely be no refund in such a case.
For instance, if you would like to describe a project in extreme detail (and I find that the details are not adding value to the statement), I will express my thoughts clearly and ask you to include those details yourself.
I want to choose your complete university applications package, but I do not have the funds at the moment. What should I do?
That is not an issue at all. For costs over โน30,000, the payments are always in instalments. This has never been an issue for anyone.
Which countries do you assist with?
Given my experience as a master’s student in the US, and associated factors, I prefer work with applicants applying to the US. However, I am open to other countries, such as the UK, Australia, Cadana and European countries on a case-by-case basis.
What is your success rate?
Almost all the people who chose the full service applied to multiple programs and received multiple offers, often from their preferred choices. There are quite a few who applied to very few (less than 3) but highly selective programs and also received at least 1 offer.
Rejections are common when applying to highly selective programs. It is high-risk and high-reward, and no one can guarantee or predict admission outcomes.
To date (2018-2025), there have been 4 people who did not receive a single offer in that round. But the reasons varied, from changes in foreign country visa policies, to issues with transcripts/scores and simply being too ambitious.
